Tyre Pyrolysis Oil
Tyre pyrolysis oil is the liquid product recovered when end of life tyres are heated without oxygen, breaking the rubber down into oil, carbon black, steel and a non condensable gas. The oil is a dark, aromatic hydrocarbon blend carrying the styrene and butadiene chemistry of the original rubber, with sulfur from the vulcanisation and ash from the compounding fillers. It is used as an industrial fuel in cement kilns, boilers and marine engines after treatment, as a blendstock into heavier fuel pools, and increasingly as a refinery and steam cracker feedstock where the specification and the sustainability certification support it.
