Aquamarine
Aquamarine is the blue to blue green variety of beryl, the same mineral species as emerald, coloured by iron in the crystal structure. It grows in granitic pegmatites as hexagonal prisms that can reach great size and remarkable clarity, which is why it is one of the few gemstones routinely cut in large, clean, faceted stones. It is used in fine jewellery, in carving and in collector specimens, and its hardness and the availability of clean material make it a staple of commercial and designer jewellery alike.

Timing
Production is when the stone comes out of the ground at origin, which follows the mining season, the water level at an alluvial working and the rhythm of artisanal digging rather than a crop calendar. Arrival is when material from that origin typically reaches a cutting or trading centre. The gap between them is sorting, export clearance and the journey to the market.
